Gioseffo Zarlino (1517-1590) is widely hailed as the most important musical theorist of the Renaissance. He also held the most coveted musical position in Venice, serving as maestro di cappella at the basilica of San Marco for a quarter century.

This recording of Zarlino’s Modulationes 6 vocum offers a glimpse of Zarlino the composer and enriches our understanding of the musical life of mid-sixteenth century Venice.
