A SINGER PUR PORTRAIT
Here you can watch a short Singer Pur portrait with English subtitles which we produced in summer 2018 with a lot of fun. Enjoy!
SINGER PUR APPOINTS NEW FIRST TENOR
Due to our dear Rüdiger's professional reorientation, Singer Pur went about the task of finding a new first tenor. We were very pleasantly surprised at the very high level of applications and are now very pleased indeed to announce that as from May 2019 Christian Meister will be joining our ranks (Rüdiger will return for three concerts in September). In Christian we are very fortunate to find a consummate musician, singer, arranger and most of all a wonderful colleague. The first tenor line is maybe the most demanding in our line up, having to cover, seemlessly, both the tenor and alto range. Very soon after our decision to offer him the position, Christian already recorded our latest CD with us in March and admirably demonstrated the stroke of luck we had in finding him. We look forward to many years of exciting joint concerts and projects!
SINGER PUR TAKES OVER A FESTIVAL
It is a great honour for us that we received the chance to continue the internationally recognised festival Stimmwercktage at Adlersberg near Regensburg as Singer Pur Tage. Other than the name not much has changed regarding the concept our dear Stimmwerck colleagues established who are sadly discontinueing their ensemble. The weekend of Renaissance music linked with works by a composer in residence took place from 2-4 August 2019 and this year was titled Kaiser Maximilian I. & Joanne Metcalf. We were particularly pleased that the wonderful composer Joanne Metcalf whose music has been an integral part of our group for 25 years joined us for our first festival and wrote another wonderful piece of music for us which was premiered at the festival.
As before there was a concert each on Friday and Saturday evening as well as on Sunday afternoon. The musicological core of the festival Singer Pur Tage also remained with an academy of lectures and workshops on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. We particularly would like to thank Stimmwerck's Gerhard Hölzle who took on the organisation of the academy and with our bass Marcus Schmidl (also a member of Stimmwerck) acted as bridge between "old" and "new". Needless to say we also continued the tradition of social interaction in the Stadel (a big and empty barn beside the church) after the concerts, in the case of Sunday also with some further music making.
The next festival will take place from 7th to 9th of August 2020!
SINGER PUR LIVE-BROADCASTING OF OUR CONCERT AT THE ELBPHILHARMONIE
Even after concerts in nearly 60 countries around the world, our concert on the 29th April was something very special for us. Kent Nagano and the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra had invited us to sing works by Ockeghem, Josquin and Isaac from Edward Houghton's new critical edition of the Chigi Codex (ca 1500).
The acoustics of the Hamburg's spectacular new land mark concert hall are maybe not ideal for that repertoire, but the enthusiastic response from the audience that rewarded us with cheers and even some standing ovations was resonance enough that certainly got under our skin.
The radio station NDRkultur recorded the concert available in the Mediathek des NDR
SINGER PUR LED THE FESTIVAL CHOIR OF MUSICA SACRA INTERNATIONAL MARKTOBERDORF 2018
We were entrusted with directing the festival choir of this wonderful interreligious festival. From 19-22 May Singer Pur prepared a programme titled "The Spirit blows where it will" in afternoon sessions with the choir that was performed in the final two days' concerts. The core of the festival choir was the Chorus Cantorum Finlandiae.
HAPPY MEMORIES OF „VIGILIA“ IN CZ-BRNO 2018
For the second time we were privileged to be asked to perform in the great acoustics of the church St Augustin in Brno as part of the Easter Festival of Sacred Music.
This time featured us with the fantastic Musikfabrik Köln for the first performance in the Czech Republic of the magnificent „Vigilia“ that Wolfgang Rihm wrote for us some years back, directed by Christian Eggen in his usual skilled, discrete and pleasant way. May there be many more of these cooperations!
The aim to make a cappella singing the focus of their lives already developed at school: soon after leaving five former members of the famous Regensburger Domspatzen cathedral boys’ choir put it into practice and founded Singer Pur in 1991.
It was a fortunate love affair that brought a soprano into their ranks: soon afterwards the sextet with the unusual combination of voices (a soprano, three tenors, a baritone and a bass) won first prize in the 1994 Deutscher Musikwettbewerb (the German national competition) and a year later the coveted Grand Prix for vocal ensembles at the international Tampere Music Festival in Finland, and was launched on its road to becoming the leading German-speaking vocal group. Soon television and radio appearances, CD recordings, invitations to major festivals and concerts in almost 60 countries established an international career.
